Outfielder B.J. Boyd, second baseman Max Schrock and first baseman Viosergy Rosa were named to the Texas League’s post-season All-Star team on Friday. All three players have been key performers for a Midland RockHounds’ squad that is looking to win its fourth straight Texas League crown.
Boyd has been at or near the top of the Texas League leaderboard for batting from the first day of the season. The Palo Alto native currently has a six point lead in the batting title race with a .332 average. He also has a .377 OBP, good for seventh-best in the league. Boyd has an 819 OPS through Thursday and has swiped 14 bases. He has also struck-out just 69 times in 121 games (12.9% K rate). This is the first time Boyd has earned post-season league All-Star honors.
Schrock has also been among the league’s top hitters all season. The infielder is currently fourth in the league in batting with a .319 average. He is just ahead of Boyd in the OBP race with a .379 mark and he has an 806 OPS. Schrock has a 40:33 K:BB and a 9.6% K rate. He has also been one of the league’s top defensive second basemen. This is Schrock’s first post-season All-Star nod.
Rosa became the first Midland batter to reach 100 RBI since Chris Carter did it in his league MVP season in 2009. Rosa currently has 104 RBI, 11 more than the next closest hitter. He also has 16 homeruns, his highest total since he hit 23 in Low-A for the Miami Marlins in 2013. Rosa has 53 walks this season. This is Rosa’s second post-season All-Star honor. He was on the Florida State League list in 2014.
