Six members of the Midland RockHounds’ roster have been named to the Texas League All-Star team. Outfielders B.J. Boyd and Tyler Marincov, second baseman Max Schrock, first-baseman Viosergy Rosa and pitchers Kyle Finnegan and Lou Trivino all made the South Division roster.
Boyd currently ranks eighth in the league in batting with a .308 average. Boyd has a .308/.361/.427 slashline this season, his first at the Double-A level. He has struck-out just 38 times in 57 games. This is Boyd’s second All-Star nod. He made the New York-Penn League roster in 2013.
Marincov is fifth in the league in OPS with an 863 mark. After hitting .267/.340/.404 in 101 games for the RockHounds last season, Marincov is batting .283/.366/.498 with nine homers in 60 games this year. He is second in the league with 47 RBI. This will be Marincov’s first All-Star appearance.
Schrock is currently on the disabled list with an Achilles/hamstring injury, but he still ranks 11th in the league in batting with a .304 average. Schrock hit only .228 in April, but he was batting .371/.398/.506 in May when he landed on the DL on May 31. Schrock earned the MVP award in last year’s Sally League All-Star game. It isn’t clear whether he will be healthy in time to participate in this year’s game.
Rosa also got off to a slow start, but he has hit .282 since the end of April. Overall, Rosa is batting .248/.333/.426 with nine homers and 31 walks. He is tied for fourth in the league in walks. Rosa was an All-Star in 2012 (New York-Penn League) and 2013 (Sally League).
Finnegan and Trivino have been two of the stoppers at the back-end of the Midland bullpen. Finnegan has converted seven saves in eight chances and he has a 3.16 ERA in 25.2 innings. He has a 24:7 K:BB this season. Finnegan made the Midwest League All-Star team in 2014. Trivino is 6-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 30 innings. He has a 30:9 K:BB and hasn’t allowed a homerun this season. This is his first All-Star appearance. Both right-handers have flirted with triple digits on the radar gun this year.
