Heath Fillmyer out-dueled former Oakland A’s starter Brandon McCarthy in the Midland RockHounds’ 2-0 win over the Tulsa Drillers. The RockHounds trail the Drillers, 2-1, in the best-of-five series.
Fillmyer worked five innings, allowing just three hits and three walks. He worked his way out of two bases-loaded, one-out situations. He threw 84 pitches in his five innings. The RockHounds’ bullpen took it from there. Sam Bragg threw two shutout innings and Tyler Sturdevant and Kyle Finnegan each worked perfect innings to close out the win.
Midland scored first in the fourth inning when Max Schrock doubled to lead off the inning and he came around to score on a one-out, Viosergy Rosa groundout. In the sixth, Jorge Mateo led-off the inning with a triple and he came in to score on a Schrock groundout.
Sheldon Neuse had two hits and a walk.
Grant Holmes will take the mound on Saturday to try to even the series.
