The Midland RockHounds and the Stockton Ports fell in their respective Game Twos on Thursday night.
The RockHounds dropped a close game, 4-3, to the San Antonio Missions, but they return home to Midland carrying homefield advantage with the series tied at 1.
The Missions got the jump on the RockHounds early, scoring once in the first, twice in the third and once in the fourth off of starter James Naile. Midland battled back with a run in the second and single runs in the fifth and sixth, but they couldn’t close the gap completely. Midland managed just one baserunner over the final three innings of the game.
Viosergy Rosa once again had a huge game. He homered for the third time in the series and also doubled. He has five extra-base hits and nine RBI in two games in this series. J.P. Sportman and Jordan Tarsovich each had two-hit games.
Brandon Mann (1.1 inning), Tyler Sturdevant (2 innings) and Sam Bragg (1 inning) combined to hold the Missions to one hit over the final 4.1 innings of the game.
Grant Holmes will get the start for Midland on Friday night for Game Three.
In Modesto, the Ports fell behind, 4-0, in the first and never got back on track, as the Nuts defeated the Ports, 11-5.
Two first inning errors led to four unearned runs. Brandon Bailey lasted only two innings. He allowed five runs (1 earned) on seven hits.
The Ports got homeruns from Seth Brown and Skye Bolt. Bolt had four hits and his homerun was to straightaway centerfield over the 30-foot wall. Brown added a double to go along with his homer. He also walked. Sandber Pimentel had three hits.
Stockton returns home on Friday needing three straight wins to avoid losing the series.
