The Oakland A’s trade second baseman Joey Wendle to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Wendle was designated for assignment late last week when the A’s officially signed Yusmeiro Petit.

Wendle hit .285/.327/.429 with eight homers and 13 stolen bases in 113 games for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds this season. Wendle also hit .308 with a home run and five RBI in eight games with the A’s in September.

Acquired for Brandon Moss from Cleveland before the 2015 season, Wendle hit .285 with 30 homers and a franchise-record 102 doubles in three seasons for the Sounds.

The A’s are now owed two players to be named later (or cash). Oakland also acquired a PTBNL from the Orioles for Jaycob Brugman.

Finally, good for him! I’m glad he will get a shot somewhere where he’s not backed up by 3 future all stars one of which is a future MVP Schrock. Though they lost him for nothing is hard because if we trade Jed, Wendle was the most ready and did well in all his appearances to the show. I still feel Smolinski should have been one to go, I doubt he’d find many suitors and would be in minors on a AA team. Wendle to me has to much SS/3/2nd versatility to be let go, considering they aren’t even sure where Barretto, Mateo or Munoz end up sticking.

If they would truly invest in the “future”… Barreto and Pinder would be playing every day. Use Jed to give them a day off instead of the other way around. Without pitching it doesn’t matter who plays where.
