The Oakland A’s announced on Wednesday that outfielder Mark Canha had surgery on his right wrist to remove a cyst this week. The A’s said Canha is expected to be ready for spring training.
Canha split the 2017 season between Triple-A Nashville and Oakland. In 75 games with the Sounds, Canha hit .283/.373/.529 with 12 homeruns. He struggled in 57 games with the A’s, hitting .208/.262/.382 with five homers. Canha missed most of the 2016 season after having surgery on his right shoulder. He hit 16 homers with a 742 OPS in 124 games for the A’s in 2015.
— Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that A’s third base coach Chip Hale is leaving the organization to serve as a bench coach for the Washington Nationals. Hale was the A’s bench coach last season. Ryan Christenson will serve that role in 2018. The Nationals recently hired Dave Martinez as manager. The A’s now have two vacancies on their big league coaching staff after Gavin Alston left his bullpen coach role to take the pitching coach position with the Minnesota Twins.

— Jhenderson Hurtado allowed a two-run homerun in a Bravos de Margarita loss on Tuesday. Hurtado had five scoreless appearances to start the season before allowing runs in each of his last two appearances.
