The Midland RockHounds won their sixth straight game with an 11-3 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders. During this six-game winning streak, the RockHounds have outscored their opponents 62-14.
J.P. Sportman returned after being forced from Tuesday’s game by a hit by pitch in the left hand. Sportman homered and had three hits in the game. Sean Murphy hit his first Double-A homer and Tyler Ramirez connected for his third since being promoted from High-A Stockton. Ramirez has a 10-game hitting streak and is batting .345 in Double-A.
Jordan Tarsovich added a three-hit game and Jermaine Curtis extended his on-base streak to 27 games. B.J. Boyd extended his hitting streak to seven games and Richie Martin extended his hitting streak to six games. Martin has a .303 average over his last 10 games.
Casey Meisner pitched well and earned his second Double-A win. He went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk. He struck-out one. Meisner recorded seven groundouts. Sam Bragg pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning to lower his ERA to 2.70 on the year.
— On Thursday morning, the Oakland A’s activated reliever Ryan Dull off of the disabled list and designated reliever John Axford for assignment. The A’s also placed catcher Josh Phegley on the 10-day DL with an oblique strain and selected the contract of Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Nashville.
— The Nashville Sounds scored seven runs in the fifth inning en route to an 8-7 win over the Las Vegas 51s on Wednesday. Matt Olson, Joey Wendle, Beau Taylor, Yairo Munoz and Kenny Wilson each had two-hit games. Jesse Hahn threw five innings to earn the win. He allowed five hits and four walks but only two runs. He struck-out two. Chris Bassitt threw two scoreless innings in relief. Tucker Healy also had a scoreless inning.
— Dalton Sawyer had a solid start, but the Stockton Ports fell, 7-3, to the Visalia Rawhide. Sawyer allowed two runs on four hits and four walks in five innings. He struck-out four. The Ports managed just seven hits in the loss. Mikey White hit his 12th homer of the season. Brett Siddall had two hits to raise his average to .306 and he was hit by a pitch. Sheldon Neuse had a hit, a walk and was hit by a pitch.
— The Beloit Snappers dropped a pitcher’s duel, 3-2, to the Kane County Cougars. Matt Milburn allowed three runs in five innings and was saddled with the loss. He struck-out only one but is still averaging nearly a strike-out per inning this season (101 in 101.1 innings). Heath Bowers (two innings) and Sam Sheehan (one inning) pitched well in relief. Sheehan hasn’t allowed a run since June 10. Luke Persico had three hits and Jesus Lopez had two hits. Lopez is 12-for-29 since being promoted from short-season Vermont.
— The AZL A’s committed five errors in a 7-4 loss to the AZL D-Backs. The errors led to two unearned runs. Jake Lumley and Marcos Brito each had two-hit games. Enrry Pantoja had a hit and a walk. He is batting .357 over his last 10 games.
