Newcomers Jorge Mateo and Sheldon Neuse combined to give the Midland RockHounds a walk-off, 4-3 win in the 11th inning. Mateo singled home Neuse with two-outs in the 11th to give the RockHounds their 59th win of the season.
Mateo had a huge game, walking twice, collecting two hits and swiping three bases. Neuse, in his Midland debut, reached base three times with an infield single and two walks. He had a walk-off single in his Stockton debut and now scored a walk-off run in his Midland debut.
Viosergy Rosa had three hits and he drove-in two to give him 97 RBI on the season. Tyler Marincov also had an RBI.
A.J. Puk made the start and he allowed two runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings. Puk struck-out nine and walked two. Puk now has 159 strike-outs in 106.1 innings pitched between Stockton and Midland this season. Joel Seddon allowed a run in 1.2 innings in relief of Puk, but Tyler Sturdevant and Carlos Navas each followed with two-inning scoreless outings. Navas earned the win and lowered his ERA to 3.38.
The RockHounds currently have a two-game lead for a playoff spot over Corpus Christi.
— Greg Deichmann had two hits and Parker Dunshee and Branden Kelliher each threw scoreless innings in the New York-Penn League All-Star game. The South division scored three runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 5-2 win over the North.
— Chris Carter homered, tripled, singled, walked and drove-in five runs in the Nashville Sounds’ 6-5 win over the Memphis Redbirds. Renato Nunez had two hits and he scored three runs. Nunez has three straight multi-hit games and seven multi-hit games in his past 11 played. Ben Bracewell went seven innings. He allowed five runs on seven hits and five walks. Bracewell struck-out three and got the win. Raul Alcantara earned the save with two scoreless innings. He has a 3.04 ERA for Nashville.
— Austin Beck and Alonzo Medina homered and the AZL Athletics cruised to a 6-1 win over the AZL Cubs. Beck also walked and he scored twice. He is batting .297 over his last 11 games. Yerdel Vargas had tripled, doubled and singled in the win. Chris Kohler threw four innings and allowed just a solo homerun. Adam Reuss threw two scoreless innings and Zack Kelly struck-out four in three scoreless innings to earn the save.
— Starter Kyle Twomey had a strong start, but the Beloit Snappers’ defense struggled and the Wisconsin TimberRattlers added on late in a 10-0 win over Beloit. Twomey struck-out a career-high seven in five innings. He was charged with one earned run (four total runs). Twomey allowed three hits and three walks. The Snappers had only seven hits, with three coming from Jason Goldstein.
— The Stockton Ports lost a slugfest down south, 11-9, to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The teams traded punches early and the Quakes pulled away in the middle innings before a Ports’ rally late made the game close. Norge Ruiz struggled in his start, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits and three walks. He struck-out two. Sandber Pimentel hit his 12th homer and had three hits to raise his average to .294. Mikey White also homered and walked. It was White’s 15th homer of the season. Skye Bolt, Eli White and Nate Mondou each had two-hit games. Kyle Friedrichs threw three scoreless innings to keep the game close late.
