Four members of the Beloit Snappers were named to the Midwest League’s Western Division All-Star team on Wednesday: left-handed pitcher Dalton Sawyer, right-handed pitcher Brendan Butler, second baseman Nate Mondou and outfielder Luke Persico.
Sawyer has a 2.25 ERA and a 64:21 K:BB in 56 innings for the Snappers this season. The left-hander was the A’s ninth-round draft choice last season out of the University of Minnesota. The 23-year-old has allowed more than two runs in a start only once this season. He currently ranks 12th in the league in ERA and is tied for third in strike-outs. Opposing batters are hitting .178 against Sawyer this season.
Butler, who is one of the three players tied for third in the league in strike-outs, was named to the Western Division team, but he won’t play in the game, as he has been promoted to High-A Stockton. Butler had a 2.32 ERA and a 64:13 K:BB in 54.1 innings for the Snappers this season. His BAA was .208 and he had a 1.01 WHIP. He was the A’s 30th-round pick in 2015 out of Dowling College.
Mondou ranks third in the league in batting with a .332 average. Mondou’s .402 OBP is eighth in the league and his 830 OPS is 13th. Mondou was the A’s 13th-round pick last season out of Wake Forest. He was a mid-season New York-Penn League All-Star last season with the Vermont Lake Monsters.
A recent slump has dropped Persico’s statline some, but the UCLA product still sports a solid .279/.346/.411 line. He has 20 walks in 48 games and has been successful in all three of his base-stealing attempts. With runners in scoring position this season, Persico is batting .385. He was the A’s 12th-round pick last season.
The Midwest League All-Star game is on June 20 in Midland, Michigan.
