A’s announce two-year Player Development Contract with Las Vegas

The Oakland A’s will have a new Triple-A home in Las Vegas for 2019.

The Oakland A’s will have a new Triple-A home in 2019. The A’s announced on Monday that they had signed a two-year Player Development Contract with the Las Vegas 51s, thus ending the A’s four-year relationship with the Nashville Sounds.

As they did in Nashville, the A’s will be opening a new stadium in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Ballpark is slated to open in time for the start of the 2019 season. Located in downtown Summerlin — a western suburb of Las Vegas — the $150 million ballpark is expected to have state-of-the-art facilities for the players and fans. The 51s’ current ballpark, Cashman Field, was considered one of the most outdated in the Pacific Coast League.

The Las Vegas team is expected to roll out a new team nickname and logo before the start of the 2019 season.
